Alberto Cano, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, has been honored as an IEEE Access Outstanding Associate Editor for 2019.

To receive this recognition, an individual must be among the top 3 percent of IEEE Access associate editors based on the number of articles handled. Cano handled 45 articles for the publication in 2019.

“It’s a great honor to receive this award recognizing the importance of serving as editor in journals. Handling a manuscript isn’t always easy, you have to find qualified reviewers and make sure authors receive comprehensive and coherent feedback,” Cano said.

IEEE Access is an award-winning, multidisciplinary, all-electronic archival journal that presents the results of original research or development across all of IEEE’s fields of interest. It emphasizes applications-oriented and interdisciplinary articles.

Cano directs VCU Engineering’s High-Performance Data Mining Lab. His research is focused on machine learning, data mining, evolutionary computation, general-purpose computing on graphics processing units and distributed computing.
